Debra A. Benjamin joined the Fred Jefferson Memorial Home for Boys Team in December 2017. Ms. Benjamin has been in the field of Social Work / Child Welfare for over 29 years. She has worked in the capacity of a Social Worker servicing children and families involved with Child Protective Services and in Medical Social Work servicing Geriatrics Seniors. Ms. Benjamin advanced in her career over the years promoting to a Social Work Supervisor, Regional Administrator, Program Director and Chief Administrative Officer working in Foster Family and Adoption Agencies. Over the past 18 years, she has managed multiple office sites and successful programs. In her current position as the Chief Administrative Officer with FJMH, she is responsible for overseeing the agency programs and working closely with the CEO and CFO regarding the business aspect involving personnel, capacity building, direct program development and agency compliance.
Ms. Benjamin received her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Prairie View A& M University and her Master's Degree in Social Work from California State University, Long Beach. She also completed the Certification Program at the Graduate Center for Development & Psychotherapy in Los Angeles for Psychodynamic Insight & Understanding: Childhood, Adolescence & Family.
Ms. Benjamin is very knowledgeable regarding the child welfare and adoption laws, county contracts and memorandums of understanding that govern foster family, adoption agencies and group homes. Ms. Benjamin is a Certified Trainer with the skills and knowledge to train Foster & Adoptive Parents, Social Work Staff, Management/Leadership and Community Parents. She is skilled and knowledgeable in writing and successfully developing programs. She is also a Certified Supervised Visitation Monitor and is Certified as a Domestic Violence Advocate. She believes in staff development and professional growth. She has a passion for Social Work and openly shares her skills and knowledge with anyone who wants to grow and learn.
Ms. Benjamin has served as a board member of Free n One Drug and Alcohol Program. She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Alpha Psi Zeta Los Angeles Chapter and an active member of Prairie View Alumni Los Angeles Chapter.
